[New Page] The Iranian Navy

A new page is launched, about the Iranian Navy. Under scrutiny today and and since the 1979 Islamic revolution, the Iranian Navy had to make due with western ships, maintained and upgraded with Soviet, Chinese, or North Korean hardware and armament after years of arms embargo. Taking losses during the eight years of war with Iraq, complete with clashes with the US Navy, the Iranian Navy underwent since the late 1990s a renewal, brewing great ambitions, like China, to become a major naval actor in the Persian Gulf, and revealing the last years a brand new array of Destroyers and Frigates.

This long study which will last for the next months is just at its beginning, focusing on major surface units, destroyers, frigates and corvettes, with next times developments of Iranian submarines, landing ships, and special crafts, including those for covert operations.
